K-State is the only school out of all 65 Power Five universities to not have a designated building for its band, and that changes this year in 2023. Now reaching 400 members, band director Frank Tracz says it is a long overdue need for not only rehearsals but also for storing the band's musical instruments and equipment. Not long ago in 2017, the band received an amazing donation from well-known actor Eric Stonestreet of a new truck that would house the band's equipment during travel games. Before, the coordination of the band equipment with travel was difficult in vans and various vehicles, to say the least almost like a choreographed dance off the field.
When I saw the hype start up a couple of years ago that fellow Wildcats were working together to get donations for building a new facility I was super excited. Once the money was raised it has been a collaborative effort to bring this 50-year overdue facility together and I wanted to donate the best way I could, with a custom painting created just for the new band hall. I had a meeting with Frank to let him in on my idea and he was all for it. After working with the architect we figured out where the painting would hang and from there I was off.
I am beyond excited for The Pride and Classy Cats to finally have their own space! Tthey put so much hard work and dedication into performances and deserve this wonderful new facility.
