The "Mule Ears" are located in Big Bend National Park in Texas. A top of the list destination to visit when exploring the massive park. Iconic symmetrical rock formations this sight can be depicted from great distances.

Part of the Big Bend Series from my first trip to the park with my family in April 2022. It was a scorching hot day surpassing 100 degrees. We came prepared with plenty of food, water, hats, and sunscreen. After an early morning hike at the Santa Elena Canyon, we trekked our way to see the Mule Ears. By the time we arrived, it was nearing the hottest point of the day, and a hike to see the formations up close would have been dangerous. We stood at the overlook viewpoint and marveled at the spectacle. They were a hazy bluish grey from the heavy heat of the day so my inspiration for the painting was born.
